We are still here

It has been a while since I have stopped in and said "hi." We have been busy around here, with what I am not sure :) Hopefully I will have some pictures of some completed projects soon:

I am still working on Colin's other mitten, it looks great.

Another project for Colin, it's glowing

got my supplies to knit myself a hat, it should be interesting

got some great vintage/antique fabrics and towels

hand painted some fabric, it still needs some work/growth

I got a new crochet pattern that will be made into a Christmas gift

Upgraded a hat for Colin, it's gnometastic!

See I have been busy...I just have not finished a single project to be able to share it :)

We have had lots of visitors this last week and enjoyed every minute. DSC_3953-1 Most of the Costa family came for a visit.

Grandpa Rollie and Grandma Pat brought Colin a pumpkin with a "kit-tee" on it. Colin loves it!

DSC_3978-1 DSC_3981-1 His favorite part was taking the lid on and off

Brice and Christina came and played for a bit.

I better get back to working on those projects. Wishing everyone a fun and Happy Halloween!

A Mitten and a Winner

DSC_3971-1

I finished my first knitting project last night. It's not he prettiest of mittens but I think it looks okay for being my first project :) Colin likes it and as long as it keeps his fingers warm I am happy. I started the second one last night and it already looks much better then my first one. Pattern can be found here, for free!

My Little Helper

It seems like I can ask Colin almost anything and he understands me. He loves to help me with the laundry. I don't even ask any more, he just grabs the washcloths and dishtowels and puts them away. I have started handing him his socks and asking him to put them away in his dresser. Sometimes they make it there sometimes....

DSC_3860-1

Yes, that is a crochet hook you see in there too. He had helped him self to it and I politely asked him to put it back where he got it. Colin almost made it back to the couch with it.  For now I just call this "Colin's drawer."

example #2- TMI so beware ;)

The other day I could hear my phone ringing,  I was in a position that I could not answer it. Whom ever it was immediately called back after I did not answer (must be an emergency) so I asked Colin if he "could go get my phone and bring it to mommy" (I had no idea where it was at the moment). He left the door way and returned shortly, to my amazement, with my cell phone open and saying "Hi." I could not believe it. I would have pooped my pants if I wasn't all ready on the toilet ;)

I love the every day adventures Colin and I have. I truly enjoyed keeping them all to myself while daddy was gone. He is growing up too fast.

A Hat for Iris

Happy 10th Birthday Miss Iris!

French Country Hat pattern can be found here.

Crochet flower pattern (free) can be found here.

For the most part the hat pattern was easy to follow. I don't consider myself to be experienced at crocheting and did have to seek some help from Christina. Not because I couldn't follow the pattern but I just didn't feel like it was looking "right." With Christina's help we came to the conclusion that we were doing it right (or so we thought) but for some reason the sizing was off. We started the hats over; Christina made a hat with some adjustments to help with sizing and I followed the pattern except I only used one strand of yarn instead of the two that it called for. It looks a little off from the pattern picture but it is still really cute.

All and all the birthday girl liked it and that's all that matters :)

Eat, Play, and Repeat

  DSC_3880-1 DSC_3881-1 DSC_3883-1 DSC_3885-1 DSC_3887-1 DSC_3888-1 DSC_3889-1 DSC_3891-1

We went out to visit and keep Brice distracted so Christina could get some projects worked on. Of course that is not what ended up happening :) Christina ended up giving me a lesson on Adobe Illustrator and helping me with a project :) We will have to try again soon and repay the favor.

I think this was the first time the boys actually played together, not just next to each other. There were some really cute games of peek-a-boo under the kitchen table. Of course I didn't get any photos of that, I always miss the really good stuff.

August Block: String Quilt

DSC_3893-1

I am getting closer to being caught up on my quilt blocks, this is August's block. I am not sure I understand the purpose behind this method. I think it is called foundation piecing? I am going to have to do some more research into why and when to use this technique. For my one block it seemed kind of odd. Could I not achieve the same look with out the paper? Are you supposed to use it with thin fabric? is my foundation supposed to have a layout design to it?So many questions :)

Happy Thursday to everyone. And a very special hug and kiss to my anonymous traveling commenter, we miss you lots.

Baby Brooke

I got to meet Brooke Ashlynn last night. She is adorable! I politely asked her if she would let me take her picture, this is how she replied. ..

DSC_3823-1

She turned her head and faced the other way. Too cute!DSC_3824-1 DSC_3825-1 DSC_3826-1 DSC_3827-1 I heart baby hands!

I tried to be patient and wait for her to wake up, but she was determined to sleep through dinner. Mom said I could wake her up and hold her :) Lucky me.

When I got home my wee one was still awake. Waiting for mom to get home before he went to sleep. I love him so very much. And just being away from him for a few hours makes me realize just how much I love him.

DSC_3830-1

PS- Mom and grandma loved the Brooke Quilt! They were impressed with my skills. And to tell the truth I am too. With much thanks to my husband for his help and Colin's too :)

Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend

DSC_3820-1 DSC_3809-1 DSC_3810-1 DSC_3813-1 DSC_3814-1 DSC_3815-1 DSC_3817-1 DSC_3819-1 Made 100% by me, minus the frame on the label, I borrowed that from Christina. Featuring Moda Swell and Sweet fabric lines. Finished quilt is approximately 32"x43" Sorry for the bad pictures, it is extremely windy here today. I am going to have my mom hold the quilt up for some photos when she stops by today :) (I am hoping it will be less windy by then)

The quilt will go to it's new home tonight when I get to meet it's recipient for the first time. I am very curious to see what Colin thinks of his new cousin Brooke Ashlynn.

Happy Monday!

Too Many?

I am beginning to believe there is such a thing as too many ideas. Too many new projects I would like to get started on. Too many many new techniques I would like to learn. Too many gifts I would like to make. And Several gifts that need to be made ASAP! I want to make a quilt for my new cousin, I have all the fabric, I just can't decide on a pattern. She was born early this week so I have to get started on it.

There is way too many things swimming around in my head right now. My plan is to write them all down and then jump into my new cup filled of coffee and enjoy.

DSC_3808-1

I purchased the cup yesterday after seeing it on Anthropologie . I have been looking for a new cup for a while and you can't pass up on an adorable cup for less then $4.

Pumpkin Patch

DSC_3580-1

Last Saturday we joined a few friends at one of the many local pumpkin patches. We of course went to the wrong one first. Who knew there were multiple patches on one little island?

It was a beautiful fall day and the ground was still dry. Like true NW's we all wore our rain boots just in case.

DSC_3510-1

DSC_3549-1Colin wore his Halloween costume and I think was the only one at the patch wearing one. People would walk by and say "look at the little monkey." I know it was sweet and they thought he was adorable :) but it still made me feel like we(meaning him) were on exhibit at the zoo.

DSC_3734-1

We had a fabulous time and left a little early. I think we were all in need of nap. Colin and I slept on the way home only to be woken up by my husband saying "I think we might be getting pulled over...Yup we are being pulled over." Luckily the nice officer let us go with a warning. I like to think it was due to Colin's monkey costume ;)

You can see more of our adventure here.

Deceptively Delicious Muffins

I got this book a while ago from Marshalls. So far it's a hit in our home. I have only used two of the recipes but they are delicious. And I can't help being inspired by the very cool retro look of the book.

deceptively delicious book

The Applesauce Muffins are fantastic.

DSC_3482-1 The recipe calls for 1/2 cup of butternut squash. Which is great because I can not get Colin to eat anything that is orange. He loved sweet potato puree before but will have nothing to do with them now. I changed/substituted a few ingredients. I used Mayonnaise instead of an egg, I was out. Vanilla soy milk instead of nonfat milk and I added some vanilla extract. The muffins are super moist and really messy with the crumb topping. If you have a little one who is not that fond of veggies I highly recommend this book. We look forward to trying many more of the recipes.
