Mendocino Picnic Blanket

DSC_0445-1

I finished the top this morning. It is one big square (7x7) up of 10" blocks. I am hoping to get it finished soon so we can start using it. I have been debating between the two Laurie Smith fabrics, pictured below, for the backing. I finally decided on the orange mosaic fabric and now I am not sure if I will have enough. I may have exactly enough if I don't have any cutting errors. Keep your fingers crossed :)

Thank you Sheila, Christina, and Sarah for all of your input and spare squares, it was most appreciated :)

Zig-Zag Progress

DSC_8453-1

A little more then half the squares needed for the zig-zag quilt top. I have a stack in the office and another 24 squares to cut then I am ready to start piecing :)

Fabrics for the top are a white solid and various prints from Sandi Henderson's Farmers Market line. Free pattern can be found here, thanks to Crazy Mom Quilts. I am making a queen size and hopefully I calculated everything right :)

Happy 1st Birthday Noah

Still needs to be gifted. The party was last Saturday,  for whatever reason I thought the party started at 2 but it started at 1.  I went any way to drop off the gift and left sick little Colin at home with Brett. Apparently the pizza place had three banquet rooms I thought it had only two. I came back home feeling confused and embarrassed still carrying the gift.  Hopefully I can get it to Noah soon because every time I see the bag it calls me an idiot.

August Block: String Quilt

DSC_3893-1

I am getting closer to being caught up on my quilt blocks, this is August's block. I am not sure I understand the purpose behind this method. I think it is called foundation piecing? I am going to have to do some more research into why and when to use this technique. For my one block it seemed kind of odd. Could I not achieve the same look with out the paper? Are you supposed to use it with thin fabric? is my foundation supposed to have a layout design to it?So many questions :)

Happy Thursday to everyone. And a very special hug and kiss to my anonymous traveling commenter, we miss you lots.

Why Roxy Does Not Have A Quilt

Have the fabric for her quilt but I can't seem to motivate myself to make it. Perhaps this is why....

She drags her blankets everywhere and then precedes to chew them, toss them, death roll them, and even tear any quilt batting out of them.  What is it with dogs and quilt batting? She goes nuts for it.

I know she loves her blankets but how can I make her a new one out of this .. Wendy Slotboom's Feathered Friends

when I know it will end up destroyed?

Happy Friday,

Elizabeth
