7 Years Later

DSC_3372-1

My old Rowenta final gave her last burst of steam yesterday. She was a great iron and took much abuse.  Notice the several bandages of electrical tape, thanks to Roxy. A few months ago I accidentally grabbed her by the cord and flung her off the top of our front load washing machine onto the cement garage floor.  And ever since that incident she has been sparking and hissing under her metal plate.

Thank you little iron for all the years of freshly pressed clothes, dish towels, and pillow cases. Without you my quilting and sewing projects would have been crinkled and disheveled looking.

Friday Nap#1

And if today is like yesterday it will be the only one :)

We had a long night last night and a early start. Our schedule is off and I think I am the only one disturbed by it. I can not see myself doing any crafting this nap so I will just share a picture of what I would like to be working on :)

Time to send out some photos of Mr. C to the family

I think it was in the last week or two that Colin started kicking the soccer ball around the house, thank you Brett. Now I am trying to teach him to kick outside and not in the house :)

Wednesday 4:00 PM

Colin is taking a second nap today, Yippee! I figure since he is so nice to take a nap for me I should do something nice for him. I sorted his toys (perhaps today's theme is sorting) and got rid of the ones he has out grown. And put all his blocks together, his Lego's in their designated bucket, ect. I am sure they will be all mixed together by the end of the night :)

And I made him some Fancy Pants :)

Appliqué dogs made from a Robert Kaufman cotton print.

Just in case you noticed, it was unintentional that I put the wiener dog on the front side. LOL! Too late to move it now. I am sure every time he wears these I will laugh at the dog on the front. Yes, I am that immature :)

Happy nap time!

Wednesday 9:30 AM

Today's nap couldn't not have come any sooner. WE are both tired and grumpy this morning.

DSC_3327-1

I am still working on my cup of coffee which means not a lot is going to get done this nap :) I checked emails, flicker photos, sorted my scraps. And I might even pay some dreaded bills.

On the scrap note let me just say this, it's a pain. I understand the reasoning of keeping scraps and it is really nice having some so you don't have to cut into yardage for little pieces. But where do you keep all of them? Do you ever throw some away? I just did! I know some of you will find this to be devastating. But honestly they were really small pieces and not thing i could ever see myself using. So why is it so hard to stop myself from taking them out of the trash?

Tuesday 3:17 PM

Nap #2. It is supposed to be any way but I can hear him over the monitor laughing and chatting up a storm. A am starting to think he is trying to phase out nap number 2 but I am just not ready for that.

I am going to try and do a photo of what I am doing/working on each nap for the rest of the week. I am secretly hoping it will keep me productive.

A Block for a Cause

DSC_3306-2

I volunteered to make a block for Crazy Mom Quilts: Quilts of Valor. And believe it or not I made the block the same day I got the email. It is a bit wow I know. But I like it. The background fabric is actually a navy blue and white. I had a difficult time deciding on fabrics. I realized I did not have very many red, white, and blue fabrics in my stash as I thought I did. Hopefully this block will end up getting used in the quilt but if not it was a fun learning experience anyway :)

I used this tutorial, which was provided for us in the blog posting, it was really easy to follow. DSC_3310-2

I am seeing stars now when I look at my fabrics :)

Road Trip

On Sunday we went to Yakima, Wa for my families annual Labor Day BBQ. We had to make a day trip out of it this year, no dog sitter. And we will not be doing any long day trips like that again for a while. It took 4 hours with one stop to get there. And about the same on the way home. This is how Colin felt about it:

On our way home

Well let me sum it up:

8 hours in the car
+
10 minutes of napping
+ 1000 times he said "momma"

* x amount of time spent screaming and crying
= no more road trips for a long time

He cried on the way there and on the way home. It is so hard to not take him out of the car seat and just hold him. Especially when he is looking at you like this...

and saying "mama."

Breaks my heart. Even now looking at this picture I want to take him out and hold him.

Once we arrived to our destination everyone had a great time.

And on the way home we experienced some beautiful weather between the down pours of rain.

Pillow Case

I finally made a pillow case for Colin's small square Ikea pillow. DSC_2843-1

I honestly don't know how long we have had the pillow for. But I do know that Colin picked out this fabric all on his own and I made the pillow case within a month of purchasing it! Yippee!

DSC_2891-1 I thought it was very cute of Colin to show me how he would use his new pillow :)DSC_2848-1 DSC_2860-1

I think he likes it.

Materials and measurements:

Fabric: Traffic Jam by Allison Jane Smith for Windham Fabrics

Measurements:

main fabric 14" x 14" square cut on the fold =14" x 28" rectangle

accent: 6" x 26 3/4"

I used a 1/4" seam allowance and did not pre wash my fabrics.

Hooking It!

0908091104-2

First off sorry for the fuzzy picture, I took it with my cell phone :)

I just finished this hat this morning. This is only my second crochet project ever! I loosely used a pattern for the main beginning shape of the hat but very quickly derailed from it and did my own thing. The hat is a little big around on the bottom but I kind of like it that way. It ensures that his ears will stay covered and a bit of his neck too :) I have yet to weave in the ends and wash it, so it may shrink a bit.

Materials: Cotton Ease thread in Taupe, Lime, and Lake

I size hook

I am thinking I will attempt this again and see if I can make some adjustments to get a better fit. Any suggestions?

Pictures from my first crocheting project will be coming soon. I am just waiting for the green light from my pattern source ;)

Beach Babies

Second part of our day with the Costa's was spent at Rockaway Beach, Or.  Colin had a great time in the sand.  Unfortunately we don't have very many pictures from the beach adventure. It's a lot of work getting the sand out of Colin's eyes, mouth and every other hiding spot :)

DSC_2784-1 DSC_2762-1 DSC_2767-1 DSC_2770-1 DSC_2771-1 DSC_2775-1 We could barely get him to look at the camera so we could take his picture.  It was wonderful being able to sneak away to the Costa's condo to shower Colin off after the fun in the sand. It made for a much more pleasant ride home. Missing from photos but present in all the fun, Brett, Sarah, Iris, and Stella. I did not get many pictures taken at all :(

There is No Competing With a Cow...

Real or Fake!

DSC_2732-1

Last Saturday we meet up with Sarah and her family at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Colin was obsessed with the fake cows.

DSC_2735-1

DSC_2727-1

You could see it in his eyes, he wanted that cow no matter what it cost him. He defiantly has his "Moo" down.
