Tiffany's 21st Birthday

DSC_0891-1

All dressed and ready to go out to Portland. From left to right: Jen, Courtney, Tiffany, Colin, Me, and Christina. Of course Colin stayed home with dad while the girls went out. We had a great time and believe it or not no one vomited. I will say that the next morning, after very little sleep, I felt my age. I think I have finally caught up on the loss of sleep. We went to Henry's for dinner and drinks and then went to McFadden's for some more drinks and dancing. We left around 1:30 when I realized that the entire front entrance was lined with police officers. Some of the girl's were not ready to leave but I thought that if there were ever a sign that we shouldn't be there that was it.

With age comes responsibility- I feel old :)

I made Tiffany a lap quilt from this pattern Mixtape, I used the Favorite Songs pattern.

The quilt materials are:

Sandi Henderson's Farmer's Market, blocks and binding

Kona cotton in Eggplant for the sashing and back.

The quilt was quilted by Christina. She did an amazing job. Thank you Christina.

As far as the finished size of the quilt, I am not entirely sure. I know it is smaller then the patterns finished size dimensions. I did a lot of squaring up. And I was amazed at how much it shrank after being washed and dried. More pictures here. I think Tiffany liked it, I know she was surprised by it.

May Block

DSC_0624-1

I just finished my block for Christina's quilt along. Did I mention this is last months block? I finished a day before we are supposed to get together for June's block. Hehehe

I do think I am the first one out of us to get it complete. We all got together eventually last month but I think everyone worked on different projects and I started this but I didn't get very far. You can read about the night here http://sometimescrafter.blogspot.com/search/label/2009%20Sampler%20Quilt%20Along

I am very excited for quilt night tomorrow and I can't wait to find out which block we are going to make.

Happy Friday :o)

Keeping Busy

DSC_0588-1

I thought I would pop in and say "Hi." It has been a little busy around the house this last weekend. I am working on a few projects and hopefully I will have some pictures to share soon.  We had a house guest and Colin has been teething. He is working on getting his bottom two one year molars in. The top two have broken thru but I am sure they still hurt.  He is a really good baby even when he is teething, I am just not used to him being so demanding and high needs. I know no poor me ;0)

There is still some fat quarters and yardage left of Lush by Erin Michael in the shop. If you don't see one you are looking for just contact me I may have it, with the exception of the paint by number birds. I only have one fat quarter left of the Lush -A Day in the Life, it's the paint by number deer scene.

Happy Tuesday.

Spring Cleaning

I have been trying really hard to clean up my fabric stash. It’s not easy when Colin helps :) the heap of fabric on the floor just grows and grows. I can’t even decide how to organize it. I like the idea of organizing it by designer in some sort of box but I just don’t seem to have the room.  Any suggestions?

This is where I would normally insert a picture but I am too embarrassed of my fabric mess to share it with you.

Tonight my husband suggested that some day I have my own room for this mess, implying that he wouldn’t have to look at it or work in it. Yes, it is that bad.

The good thing about cleaning, organizing, re-folding is that you find all kinds of wonderful fabrics that you forgot you had. Then all the ideas of what you were going to make with them come rushing back and the project list gets longer. DSC_0352-1

Or you digress and complete one of them :) A reverse appliqué mushroom linen bib. I used Jay McCarroll’s mushroom fabric from the Woodland Wonderland line. Like it? Love it? It is in the shop. I am going to have to make a second one for Colin :)

DSC_0472-1

He did not want to model it for me. But he did with tears in his eyes. But I digress….(this is why my fabric is not getting organized)

In hopes to organize and to make my husband stop saying “your fabric stash sure has gotten big” I have decided to move some of my treasures to the shop. It is going to take me some time so check back often :)

Have a great weekend!

Huck Finn Pants Take 2

DSC_0259-1

I made Christina’s  son, Brice, a pair of Huck Finn pants just like Colin’s. Well almost. I made a few tweaks since Brice is a little bit smaller then Colin. I used the same 12 month pattern pieces. I just used a French seam on the outside seam of each pant leg. And I used Colin’s waist measurement for the elastic length, no additional inches added or the button that the pattern calls for. I also increased the hem on each pant cuff.

The pants look like shorts in the photo due to how they were hung on the hanger but I assure you they are longer then they appear. Brice was kind enough to try them on for me yesterday and I think they fit really well. But I a wasn’t smart enough to take a picture. Oh well.

DSC_0261-1

I also made a coordinating t-shirt for Brice with appliquéd number 1 for his first birthday. I used steam-a-seam to adhere it and then I used the zig-zag stitch and stitched all the way around it. This appliqué should hold up to many washes.

DSC_0267-1

And of course I had to add a tag so Christina could tell which side was the back and I thought it was only appropriate to use some monkey ribbon I have. She calls Brice her little monkey :)

Now I just need to make Colin a matching t-shirt and we can take there photos together. I am sure they will think we are dorks when they look back at the photos someday.

Fabric-is from Heather Ross’ line Lightening bugs and Other Mysteries I think it is just called orange stripe.

As a side note I would just like to say I still had difficulties with the topstitching of the pant leg seams. Most of them silly but irritating, like running out of bobbin thread and not realizing it until I thought I was finished with the seam. I was really nervous about making these for Brice. I look up to and admire Christina’s beautiful craftsmanship. I didn’t want them to look anything less then amazing. Hahaha, so not realistic :o)

My first real quilt

DSC_0059

DSC_0047

DSC_0056

Here is the finished baby quilt. It turned out fabulous. Thank you so much to Christina for all of your help. She did the quilting for me on her long arm. Have the blanket quilted makes it 110 times better. She also helped me figure out what was going on with my binding. For some strange reason I thought I was supposed to leave extra over hang in the corners when stitching the biding on to the top side. I was wrong. It still looks great. Next time I will do it correctly and it will be even easier.

I hope the baby gets lots of use out of this little blanket. And I can’t wait to get to meet her.

p.s. fabric is from Moda Swell by Urban Chicks, a variety of years worth.
