Jelly Bath

Just a warning there is an up close picture of my toes in this post, please look past the toes and look at the jelly on them or if toes freak you out don’t look :)

I felt cruddy all day yesterday. I think my allergies are in overload. I thought I would take  a nice hot bath and soak up all the steam I could get and that just maybe it would help with the congestion in my head.

I had a box of Jelly Bath, from ages ago, so I thought I was really going to try and relax in there. I used the mint one, the color was great it made me feel like I was on a tropical beach somewhere. And the Jelly was fun. It really did help retain the heat  for a lot longer, the water was still hot when I got out.

And none of it sank to the bottom of the tub. It really is amazing stuff.  I highly recommend using it. Although, I did get board. Next time I will have to bring a neck pillow and perhaps a book. Apparently I am not that good at just sitting and relaxing.

Clean up was easy, the Jelly Bath comes with a dissolvent I just added it to the water after I got out and went and rinsed off in the shower and came back and drained the tub. I did have to rinse some of the remaining jelly bits out of the tub but they didn’t have any problems going down the drain.

Have a relaxing day.

Who needs a basket of toys when you have this…

DSC_8087-1

Colin was having a lot more fun playing with moms fabrics and ribbons then his toys. Notice that the basket of toys in the top left corner is full. May I  also add that he has not played with these toys for quit a while, perhaps since his birthday. And they still can’t compete with the fabric.

I am hoping to have a post here very soon showing you all the fun stuff I have been working on. Hopefully the teething baby will let me get some more sewing time in ;)

No need to send it twice

I swear someone out their in the www can read my mind, other then my husband and Christina, that is. But they don’t have to torture me and bring my inner thoughts straight to my inbox, especially more then once in a single day.

Sunny Caribbean & Mexican Riviera vacations –
7-day Balcony fares from only $749*

vacation dreams

It has been one of those great Pacific Northwest Spring days. Almost black at times from the down poor and then extreme wind gusts rattling the house followed by enough sunlight to make you think the rain is gone and you step outside and get soaking wet. I am not complaining or anything it just makes me long for warm carefree days sitting on my balcony onboard a princess cruise ship while sipping a cool tropical beverage. Yahhhhh relaxation at last.

Fun in The Sun

DSC_7934-1, originally uploaded by izzybizzy81.

We had a beautiful weekend her in the pacific northwest. Yesterday was the best it was over 80 degrees and we filled our day with visiting with our dearest friends. The boys of course had a little less fun since they were trapped in the play pen. The grass is still too saturated from all of our wet weather too let them roam around in. Plus I didn't feel like chasing after Colin :)

We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to more beautiful days that we can share with our friends.

Hope you had a great weekend.

Tomato Goodness

DSC_7576-1

This is my all time favorite food. I could eat it all day, everyday.

Ingredients:

5 sliced tomatoes (or as many as you want)

2 cloves garlic finely diced

2 green onions thinly sliced

3 basil leaves thinly sliced- I stack all my leaves up and then roll them and very careful cut strips with my kitchen sheers directly over the sliced tomatoes

equal parts Olive Oil, balsamic vinegar, and champagne vinegar for this amount of tomatoes I did 3 tablespoons. I normally do double the amount because I love to soak it up with bread.

A pinch of salt and sugar

A loaf of your favorite bread sliced into 1/2” pieces , mine is a soft French bread from our local market.

Arrange your sliced tomatoes on a platter, one that is relatively deep and can hold the dressing. Sprinkle the tomatoes with sugar, salt, garlic, onion, and basil. Then drizzle the Olive oil, balsamic and champagne vinegar over all the tomatoes. Let rest for 20 minutes or eat right away. The longer it sits the better it tastes.

DSC_7585-1

I like to dip my bread in the dressing and then place a tomato right in the middle of my bread. Yummy! It makes me want to go in the kitchen and make some up right now.

Enjoy!

Second Saturday of the month

DSC_7512-1

And I am super excited. Today is the day we meet for our quilt along. I am really looking forward to making this block tonight. I need the practice on this one. I don’t want to give the block away but I will blog about it tomorrow. Christina says it is really easy so I am going to bring an additional project with me, I am just not sure which one.

I know you are thinking work on your quilt so its done before the deadline… “ but  I don’t wannna!” I have  a special project I am working on for a new baby that is coming soon…not mine. And a couple of wrap skirts that I have been commissioned to do.  I think I will take the baby project…much easier to pack up.

Check back tomorrow for my finished block, great photos, and a recipe.

Happy Saturday!

Cloth Basket

DSC_7431

I was inspired by this basket, well to tell the truth  I fell in love with it. I thought to myself this would be perfect for Mr. C, especially since I am feeling a bit guilty about not making him anything besides a bib for his 1st birthday.

And you know what I actually made it. Luckily for me Christina had the Zakka Sewing book that it came from. It only contains the pattern for a fabric basket not the bunny part.  If you want to make the bunny face and ears my inspiration –distressed(blog name) has everything you need. I headed on out to Sheila’s and her and I got to work on some baskets.

I basically did my own thing. I knew I wanted a bigger basket then 4” but what I wanted to do I didn’t bring a large enough piece of fabric with me. So I worked with what I had. Mr.  C’s finished basket is 6” wide by 5 1/2” tall, I made my own face, my own ears (they needed to be bigger to fit the new basket size)but still folded them the same as the inspiration basket. And I made one large handle to cover the center of the basket.DSC_7428-1

I used a greenish khaki linen on the outside and a neat Mary Engelbreit fabric (not sure of the name but the copy right year is 2005) on the inside. It would have been a super easy basket and it really is, I just had some minor difficulties and distractions. Sheila had two baskets finished before I had completed my one.

Happy Friday Thursday! oops, it’s like my Friday cause Brett is home tomorrow :)

Baby Leggings Tutorial

Say goodbye to cold legs and red little knees while looking very hip.

Use any pair of new or used men's crew sock to knee high sock or women's knee high sock. The sock used in the tutorial is a brand new pair of women’s knee high socks (prewashed before being used in this project).

DSC_6566-1

Step 1.  Separate the leg of the sock from the foot. I used my rotary cutter for this but you could easily use a pair of scissors.

DSC_6573-1 Place the ruler right where the heel ends on the sock and make a straight cut across the sock. Now you have separated the foot from the leg of your sock.DSC_6576-1

Step 2. Cut the heel and toe section off of the foot of the sock. Place your ruler or make your cut right before the heel starts to form.

DSC_6578-1

Next cut off the toe of the sock. Align or cut so that you will have a straight edge leaving the mid section of the foot, it should be in the shape of a rectangle.

DSC_6581-1

You should have two pieces that look like thisDSC_6586-1

Step 3. Make the bottom cuff

Fold the foot fabric (little rectangle) in half so that the right side of the fabric is on the outside.DSC_6599-1 with writing

Turn the leg part of the sock inside out. Insert cuff into the leg of the sock, placing the cuff fold side first.

DSC_6600-1 Make sure to match up the raw edges. Now pin in place. I used a lot of pins so that I would not have to worry about the fabrics stretching.DSC_6601-1

Now stitch all the way around the cuff with a 1/2 inch seam allowance, back stitching at the beginning and end of the cuff for extra durability. I used a medium width zig-zag stitch to allow for extra stretch.

DSC_6604-1

Now trim the seam allowance to 1/4of an inch.

DSC_6607-1

It should look something like this.DSC_6608-1

Step 4. Turn our legging right side out.DSC_6609-1 you should have a beautiful cuff on the bottom of your new baby legging

DSC_6612-1

Step 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 for second leg.

DSC_6614-1

Step 6. Find an adorable baby to try them out on!DSC_7189-1

Is a sneeze really that funny?

Colin and I had a great day yesterday. He was being so silly. Sorry for the bad recording but it was from my cell phone.

Hope you have many giggles and laugh so hard it sounds like you are crying this weekend.

Birthday Presents for Tiffany

I made Tiffany a cute apron with Cheerleader pleats in the front. Fabrics used were linen, Alexander Henry-pears and apples, and Michael Miller-red dots. This pattern will be available soon from the Sometimes Crafter in her Etsy shop. I also made her the coffee sleeve, which was from another of the Sometimes Crafter patterns.

Happy Birthday Tiffany!

Lovely cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. It's worth the calories, every last bit of them.

Goal

I did not reach my goal of completing my quilt that I started over a year ago. I could come list many reasons why it kept getting moved to the back burner but the ending would still be the same. So I am setting a new goal/deadline May 1st. As I type that I am already thinking is that an attainable goal? It might not be with all the other projects that I am working on. So lets say May 15th. I am going to give it my best to get it done.
Colin playing with Uncle Cory
I will post again soon about some projects that I have completed and about Colin's 1st birthday. I am still recovering from his party on Sunday. I believe the party went really well and if it didn't I was to busy to tell ;)

Have a great day.
