Introducing Ms. Roxy

We have had a lot of changes this year, it seems like too many for it to still be January. We lost our beloved dog Kona. She was hit by a car a few weeks ago. One never realizes how much they truly love and adore an animal until she is gone. We are still very saddened by our loss and I still do not drive in the intersection where it happened.
After losing Kona we unexpectedly came across a puppy that my husband could not resist. It seemed way to soon to have a new dog but we weren't sure if we would find another one, especially one from the Humane Society. We still think about our dear Kona everyday and miss her terrible. Especially when we think about how much fun she would have had with the new puppy.

Her name is Roxy, she is 2 1/2 months old, and she is an American Pit Bull. She is all white except for the spot around her eye and her eyes are blue.
And of course she is super cute. Roxy has taken right to our family as we have to her. She is a very energetic puppy who needs to go for daily walks which has lead me to make this....
Normally I would not make clothing for a dog. But she just shivers when you go for walks outside. Even my husband commented on her being cold. So I went to Joanns and found a pattern, not my favorite (of course that was sold out), Butterick B5157 option C. I left out the back buttons and the bow, that just seemed a bit much.
And I added some extra Velcro that way the coat would fit her now and it will also grow with her as she does. I still need to figure out a way to make the extra belt/front piece lay flat when it is on the smallest size. She likes to chew on it. I also added some quilt batting to the main body piece. The two fabrics I used didn't seem to have enough weight to them to really keep her warm. I mean if I am going to make a coat for a dog it's going to be a coat :o)
The above picture is of the lining. I sewed around the brown flowers to attach the linning to the quilt batting. It didn't turn out as cute as I pictured it in my head but I still like it. I wish I had stuck with my gut feeling about the linning showing on the collar, it seems a bit 70's. I am not sure how to fix it now. Any ideas?

I love it, too. I think it looks great. Not sure what to do about the extra flap. She'll grow fast enough. I wouldn't worry about it. I think the fabric showing on the color looks great! I wouldn't change a thing.
