Drunken Cheesy Bread

It got this recipe from Real Simple magazine and I finally made it (picture from real simple' website, since our dear friends are borrowing our camera). It was delicious! It was especially good since I am a bread freak, I could munch on a warm loaf of bread by itself. Even the hubby loved it. I think it's supposed to be an appetizer but we had it with a fresh green salad (with cucumbers from our garden) and cantaloupe. My recipe differed from theirs so I figured I will share it.

1 baguette, sliced open and then cut into 2 inch slices
1/2 small yellow onion diced
1/8 pound deli ham, we used black forest ham
1/2 cup of white wine, use something you like to drink, we used Montinore Estate Muller-Thurgau 2006 (it's a German variety that is semi sweet that is made here in the Willamette Valley)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) grated white cheddar (may use Gruyere, Swiss, Monterey jack, or Fontina)

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Place half the bread in a buttered ovenproof dish (such as a skillet, or 9-inch square baking dish, or casserole). sprinkle half the onion and ham over the bread. Next lay a seconed layer of bread and spinkle with the remaining onion and ham. Pour the wine or the bread mixture and sprinkle with peper and cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted and it has begun to brown at the edges, about 20 minutes or 15 with speed bake. Let rest a few minutes and enjoy!

I came across a cool giveaway

I have been in love with these camera straps that I keep seeing everywhere. Especially my friend Christinas' I love hers. But I share my camera with my husband. I don't think he would be all to happy about a quilted flora camera strap. But yesterday Christina showed me this
It's a camera strap cover(picture is from the etsy shop where it's available)! That way I could have something cute and comfy and when my husband uses the camera he can just take it off, if he wants to of course. They are for sale on Etsy, click here to see it and the other cool fabric options available. They are made by Shealynn, she is a photographer who likes to sew. And if you are feeling lucky, or just hopeful like me you can enter this giveaway at the Vintage Pearl and try and win one. Good Luck.

We made it

My husband as been in Germany for two weeks, working of course, and I am happy to report that Colin, Kona, and myself are all in one piece. Half way through the first week I did not think I was going to make it. Colin decided to change his most compassionate sleeping schedule to an unruly one. Waking up after bedtime after sleeping for as little as one hour, it was a different story every night, even though I put him to bed at the same time. I will be so happy and well rested when he sleeps more consistently through the night.

I did find lots of energy for some projects around the house, and thanks to my little brother Ben we got them done before Brett got home.
This is a frame we made to fit this Alexander Henry decorator weight fabric on. I got it out of the remnants section at Fabric Depot. You just can't pass up the savings and the fabric piece was 3/4 of a yard, I think. I also got a yard of the Alexander Henry decorator weight fabric Mocha (and a extra yard to use with Christina's diaper bag pattern when it's finished) and I made two panels and a third out of some Laurie Smith fabric I had in the stash.
The wall is long enough for a fourth panel and it looks a bit strange with just the three so I am going to make a fourth panel with the Laurie Smith stripe. I got the frames for these at Ikea, they were only $4.99 and it came with screws and nails. The nails were complete junk and it went much faster with a stapler. Overall I am very pleased with both projects but of course the one in Colin's room is my favorite, since we made the frame ourselves. Next time I will just make the frame myself so I can vary the size/shape to fit the fabric I have and add more pezazz.

Here is a peek at the rest of the fabrics I bought from Fabric depot, all at least 30% off, to add to my stash.

That's right there is a piece of Paisley print fabric ;)

Back log #2

We had lots of activities including a play date with Christina and Brice. It was the funniest thing, we dressed them in the same outfits. Christina, like a good little blogger already posted about this, but I thought I would too.
We also went to the new park with cousin Jennifer and her daughter Taylor; it has a skate/bike area for the teens, a great big play set for the younger ones (the new toys are really cool looking and nothing like i remember them being), a long walking trail that is paved, and best of all an off leash dog area for Kona.
This is Kona, our first child if you will, she unfortunately gets less attention since Colin arrived. We try really hard to give her special time i.e. taking her to the dog park. It just seems like she gets the full force of my frustration. I don't beat her or anything, I just yell at her and send her to time out when she is being bad. It doesn't take much for her to make me mad, I am working really hard on trying to be patient with her.

Okay back from my tangent. Where was I? Oh yes, the park with Jennifer and Taylor. It was a beautiful day and I got a really attractive t-shirt sunburn, but managed to keep Colin sunburn free.
Little Miss Taylor just loves Colin. She tries really hard to be gentle with him. As soon as she sees him she walks over and pets him. It is adorable.
Here she is kissing Colin goodbye. Is she not the sweetest?
I have to say I am really lucky to have amazing friends and family close by to spend time with.
